Treo680 Cingular phone glitches

at t global calling card
Intermittent problems with the phone portion of treo680.  Top left corner where it normally says "Cingular" (or "Phone Off") there is garbage - what appears to be random letters and symbols.  This is accompanied by no bars showing for signal strength.  During this time I can’t make or receive a call.  Seems to be tied to going into areas of low/no signal, which is to say I haven’t had it happen where there are 2 or more bars of signal strength.  Stopping and restarting the phone application doesn’t help.  Pulling the battery and replacing it usually doesn’t help unless I perform this operation several times - even then, results are iffy.  Seems to self-heal (after several minutes) after getting back into an area of good signal.  Anyone else with these same observations?  BTW, dude at the Cingular shop said it has happened to several other customers but I have yet to see or hear anything of the sort from anyone else.Post relates to: Treo 680 (Cingular)
